Agricultural sector trade plays an important role in developing countries. In this regard, the
role of border markets in terms of the amount of agricultural commodity exchanges plays a
significant role in the growth of the economy. In this study, export and import functions of
agricultural products in 33 markets were studied by using the spatial econometric model
during the period of 2009-2017. The results of the spatial error model showed that border
markets have a positive and significant effect on each other. Results spatial error model
shows that border markets with high export amount, amount relative export prices have
negative effect although global income and the uncertainty of real effective exchange rate
have positive effect and significant on export amount. In border markets with low export
amount, income has been positive effect and significant and relative export prices and the
uncertainty of real effective exchange rate have been negative effect and significant. In
border markets with high import amount, relative prices have been negative effect and
significant but the uncertainty of real effective exchange rate and domestic income have
been not significant. While in border markets with low import amount, relative import
prices have been negative and significant effect.
