E-government initiatives help a country disseminate information more transparently and efficiently, provide better quality public services, and take important steps to fight corruption. By reducing human contact points by using information and communication technology in government processes, e-government can improve information security and protect sensitive government information, and it can also improve the efficiency of government processes, which can Help reduce corruption.
This research has investigated the effect of e-government on economic corruption in 12 developing countries that export oil. For this purpose, composite data in the period from 2012 to 2021 and the econometric method based on composite data (panel) have been used. The results of the estimation showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between the electronic government index and the corruption perception index, which means that the electronicization of the government and its services reduces the level of corruption in the studied countries. To investigate the existence of a non-linear relationship and to test the hypothesis that the e-government index has a U-shaped effect on the corruption perception index, by using the threshold panel regression (PTR) model, we came to the conclusion that there is a threshold model for oil exporting developing countries.
